Feasibility study for a new 50,000sf senior service building and memory garden. The new structure honors the adjacent Gothic church without resorting to mimicry, acknowledges the brick-and-limestone rectory with its massing and judiciously deployed square-headed Gothic ornament, and relates to the scale of the pre-war apartment buildings nearby. Principal materials are brick and cast stone, with EIFS cladding the community room at the sky. Although the Bishop was said to have liked the design—"It looks like a palace!"—our client could not persuade the Archdiocese to part with its undeveloped site.
