Ridgewood Avenue Residence 10, Glen Ridge NJ Historic District — Porch Restoration and Exterior Renovation — AIA NS Gold Design Award
As a part of our our ongoing, phased work on a significant ca 1894 Colonial Revival house in the Historic District—work then including a general exterior renovation and roof replacement—we were asked to recreate the second story balustrade and the long-lost original curved stair railings. This turned out to be less expensive than we had feared. The custom-turned balusters are a development of the originals that still exist. The newel we invented features a Pseudo-Scamozzi cap that relates to the Scamozzi Ionic order of the central section of the porch. We slightly modified the original handrail section to comply in full with current New Jersey building code. 'Code Compliant Classicism.' Repeat client. AIA NS Gold Design Award.
