The owners approached us to add a master bedroom over the existing garage of a Cape Cod style house. This proved impractical in several ways. A simpler solution was to expand of second floor, creating additional volume by raising the ridge and bringing it forward. The resulting shape is that of a classic New England half-gambrelled saltbox. The chimney was raised in matching brick. For economy's sake we accepted and extended the existing vinyl siding.
