Adaptive restoration and partial renovation of a significant Shingle Style house designed in 1883 by architect H. Edwards Ficken, completed in 1884, and widely published—most notably as the first house illustrated in the first volume of Sheldon’s Artistic Country Seats of 1886. In the early 20th century the house was moved and altered several times to ill effect. Our work addresses these unsympathetic alterations and restores significant elements of what was considered in its own time a complex, exotic building.
